Mum
Lily died this morning on Mothers Day. She was peaceful and I think ready to go. I don't have my own words to say how I'm feeling other than I now understand why this popular anonymous poem has become an anthem for the bereaved.
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there, I do not sleep
I am a thousand winds that blow
I am the diamond glints on snow
I am the sunlight on ripened grain
I am the gentle autumn rain
When you awaken in the morning hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight
I am the soft stars that shine at night
Do not stand at my grave and cry
Am not there, I did not die.
My thanks to you all for your kind messages and thoughts x

Lovely poem; holding you close in our thoughts.
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm very much thinking of your mum and you , and sending you both warm thoughts. Lovely poem, but to read it makes tears come to my eyes (I lost my mom a long time ago, I know) I just want to tell you that Iunderstand how it is to now encapsulate in your mind, the time and relationship span where you and your mum's life intersected. It's never long enough. Never. xx

ReplyDeleteYou have my hugs to warm you. My passed a year ago. I still want to call her everyday at our usual time, But it is getting easier.
ReplyDeleteI am so very sorry for your loss and the loss your family must now endure. My mother died several years ago and my father much earlier, and I remember the comfort I was given by a friend after he died - which I have always remembered. As she said, after her father died there wasn't a day that he wasn't in her thoughts. And it is so true. So your poem speaks truth. With you holding her memories, your mother lives through you. Celebrate her life and the beauty she brought to it.
ReplyDeleteIt really is so comforting to read all your kind and wise words and I can't thank you enough for caring enough to share your thoughts with me.

Dear Jean, I am sending you warms thoughts and will give you a big hug when I meet you in May for the tour. Your loss of your mom will bring out all sorts of memories and thoughts of "why didn't I" or "why didn't she" for some time. The loss does get easier in time, but your mom is always your mom. My mom passed away five years ago and not a day goes by where she is not in my thoughts. I can tell that you are raw with emotion and regret. Try not to be so hard on yourself. Bye for not; with sincere prayers for you and your family. Eileen
