Jane Galer

janegaler: "Happy New year! or almost. Samhain, which is pronounced sow-en, is the original cross quarter day for the northern European pagans celebrating the end of the living year and the coming of the long nights. This year Samhain is actually on Nov. 7th. These astronomical events, solstices, equinox, and the days marking the mid points between were the primary calendar for pagan Celts until the Roman calendar arrived, and then Christian conversion usurped the dates and imposed their own on top as a way to gently convert pagans over the Christianity, thus the spring equinox became Easter, winter solstice became Christmas. And Samhain became Halloween. "
