Book review coming up!

Woooohooo... I've got a treat in store for you on Monday.  I'll be reviewing Stephanie Tallent's new book California Revival Knits and there'll be a giveaway!! The jumping off point for this lovely volume is the stucco, red-tiled roofs, coved ceilings, decorative tiles and wrought iron of the California Revival architecture  - Mission, Spanish Colonial and Spanish Revival. The work is both colourful and intricate, though not always at the same time, with lovely attention to detail, just like the source.

I could go on but don't want to say too much at this stage but just wanted to tell you I'm particularly pleased to be reviewing a book written by a vet. Yes, when Stephannie's not wearing her knit cap she's beavering away tending sick animals, doing stuff like Django's surgery.  Wow!  The two things seem to be a million miles apart but nevertheless I can see why they might complement each other. Luckily I haven't had to take many animals to the vets, other than for their jabs etc, but when I do I'm always amazed at the magic they're able to work on wounds that seem irretrievable.
Stunning tiles
We once had a beloved dog named Dinah who was hit by a car.  She chased a cat out into the road and her leg was crushed from the knee down. It was heartbreaking to see her in such pain, I remember I was six months pregnant at the time and thought I would miscarry as I was so upset.  However, the vets worked hard and reconstructed her leg and eventually, with much tlc and nursing, she completely recovered and lived to the ripe old age of seventeen. The baby was OK too :)

But I digress... back to Stephanie's book, don't forget to visit my blog on Monday 7th May if you'd like to hear more, plus the chance of winning a copy for yourself.
